Safety Superintendent - Operations

Our client are a top 10 Canadian gold mining company who are looking to hire a safety superintendent to lead the execution of the strategy for the site safety and health; to ensure alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy, to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability, and to oversee the day-to-day safety operations including regulatory compliance, coaching and training.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
• To develop and implement business practices that align with the organization’s overall strategy
• Implements processes, policies, systems, and practices that contribute to a unified business platform
• Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
• Collaborates with senior management to identify and analyze business requirements; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
• Identifies key performance measures for the site; monitors and reports on achievement of targets and revises strategies as needed
• Ensures all areas of the site are in compliance with safety regulations
• Provide Safety Engineering expertise, advice and studies to deal with safety related issues
• Monitoring of Safety and Health (S&H) performance of the exploration team
• Benchmark external S&H performance, best practices and program application processes
• Provide technical/program support to the exploration personnel
• Compile/analyze incident information and ensure root-causes are properly identified and action plan implemented
• Participate in and evaluate incident investigations as required
• Liaise with various internal functional areas and external safety organizations
• Monitor S&H-related regulatory and jurisdictional issues
• Assist the site with program development and implementation of the Kinross Safety and Health System
• Participate in maintaining regulated and ‘best practice’ safety programs for exploration
• Assist project with evaluation of change management issues with respect to S&H
• Consider and recommend best practices to be proposed for adoption
• Assist with Compliance Assurance S&H auditing at site or other projects as needed
• Prepare reports and communicate to all levels of the organization
• Advises and assists H&S Manager in guiding of the Emergency Response Teams
• Act for the Health & Safety Manager during his absence the Health & Safety Manager Act for during his absence
• To lead and manage the site for executing the safety and health strategy
• Identifies strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor to site personnel; works to overcome challenges and barriers and minimize risk
• Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages overall safety and health performance of site
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements
University graduation or diploma
Additional specialized education of up to 2 years
Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area of expertise
Must have strong knowledge of all applicable government regulations as they apply to mining
More than 5 years of related work experience, with 10 years experience in safety
Multi-lingual (French/English/Arabic) would be an asset
