We require a SQL Database Administrator. The Job Description and required skills are as follow:
Main Objectives
The position has following main objectives
Database Administrator
The Data Base Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies.
The DBA is challenged to work with architecture, application development and operations to help achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives. Provides and designs tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment. Works to provide a working model of our transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.
Legacy Tasks
We have quite a few legacy tasks that will be taken care by this position.
These legacy tasks are
• Optimize existing database scripts.
• Databases maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
The post has the following duties and responsibilities
Database Administration
• Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
• Work to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
• To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
• Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
• Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of SQL Server development.
• Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
• Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.
Additional Tasks
• Assist with the daily management of database performance and optimization.
• Provide third line support.
• Manage all database documentation.
• Ad-hoc Reporting.
Others
• Undertake any other duties that might reasonably request from time to time.
Skills
• 4 - 5 years experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
• In depth SQL Server Database Administration experience.
• Experience of managing multiple MS SQL 2008 on large systems.
• Strong knowledge of database performance and tuning.
• Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects.
• Experience Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
• Experience of Transactional SQL, and DTS stored procedures.
• Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment.
• Ability to achieve set goals and deadlines.
• Ability to self-motivate and self-direct.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
