Applications are invited for the position of Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan from accomplished and strongly motivated academic leaders and administrators with a demonstrated track record of leadership, development and research. According to the Virtual University Ordinance, the Rector shall be an eminent scholar and an educationist of distincting and shall hold office for four years.
Distinguished scholars and administrators are also encouraged to nominate potential candidates for the position, in writing, explaining the basis for the nomination. The Virtual University of Pakistan is a modern distance learning institution and Pakistan's only university that operates solely through the use of Information and Communication Technologies.
Hence, the ideal candidate should have a strong IT background and have extensive experience in visualizing, defining and leading the deployment of complex IT systems. Experience in e-learning and the management of a distributed learning environment would be a additional assets. A holistic understanding of issues of pedagogy, quality assurance, Instructional systems design, etc. will be a major asset.
Pay Scale
Competitive salary package commensurate with qualification and experience.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates should possess an earned doctorate degree preferably in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology, Education or related field. Candidates with a doctoral in other fields may be considered provided they have a strong background or extensive work experience in provision or management of modern distance education.
Candidates should be outstanding academicians of international stature. They should have attained distinguished leadership in education and academic administration and financil management with proven track record of extensive experience and skills in initiating and managing chance, strategic planning and overseeing the implementation of plans through to outcomes.
Candidates should have the ability to represent the university effectrively, nationally and internationally, especially with goverment, business and the wider community. They should also have in-depth knowledge of the major development in higher education learning and teaching with ability to create linkage and networks.
Candidate must be less than 65 years of age on the last date of application as specified below.
